Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art

The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMoCA) was inaugurated in 1977 and is considered one of the largest collections of modern and contemporary art in the Middle East. The museum was established by the order of Farah Pahlavi, wife of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, with the goal of expanding contemporary culture and art in Iran. The building, designed by Iranian architect Kamran Diba, merges modern architecture with traditional Iranian elements. Located in Laleh Park, the museum features multiple exhibition halls, a specialized library, a cinema hall, and multipurpose spaces.

The museum’s collection includes valuable works by renowned international artists such as Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, René Magritte, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, and many others. It also preserves works by prominent Iranian artists like Sohrab Sepehri, Bahman Mohasses, Monir Farmanfarmaian, and Parviz Tanavoli. After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, many of the museum’s Western artworks were moved to storage and remained out of public view for a period. In recent decades, TMoCA has experienced various phases of activity and has hosted a diverse range of exhibitions by both Iranian and international artists.

In recent years, the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art underwent closure for renovation and restoration, and resumed its activities after the completion of the renovations. Today, the museum remains one of the most important art centers in Iran and the Middle East, playing a significant role in introducing contemporary art to Iranian audiences and hosting international art events.

موزه هنرهای معاصر تهران (TMoCA) در سال ۱۳۵۶ (۱۹۷۷ میلادی) افتتاح شد و یکی از بزرگترین مجموعه‌های هنر مدرن و معاصر در خاورمیانه به شمار می‌رود. این موزه به دستور فرح پهلوی، همسر محمدرضا شاه پهلوی، و با هدف گسترش فرهنگ و هنر معاصر در ایران تأسیس شد. ساختمان موزه توسط معمار ایرانی، کامران دیبا، طراحی شده و ترکیبی از معماری مدرن و سنتی ایرانی است. این بنا در پارک لاله تهران واقع شده و دارای فضاهای نمایشگاهی متعدد، کتابخانه تخصصی، سالن سینما و فضاهای چندمنظوره است.

مجموعه موزه شامل آثار ارزشمندی از هنرمندان مطرح جهانی مانند پابلو پیکاسو، کلود مونه، رنه مگریت، فرانسیس بیکن، آندی وارهول، جکسون پالاک و بسیاری دیگر است. همچنین آثار هنرمندان برجسته ایرانی مانند سهراب سپهری، بهمن محصص، منیر فرمانفرمائیان و پرویز تناولی نیز در این مجموعه نگهداری می‌شود. پس از انقلاب اسلامی در سال ۱۳۵۷، بسیاری از آثار غربی موزه به مخازن منتقل شدند و برای مدتی به نمایش درنیامدند. در دهه‌های اخیر، موزه هنرهای معاصر تهران دوره‌های مختلفی از فعالیت را تجربه کرده و نمایشگاه‌های متنوعی از هنرمندان داخلی و خارجی برگزار کرده است.

در سال‌های اخیر، موزه هنرهای معاصر تهران برای بازسازی و مرمت تعطیل شد و پس از اتمام بازسازی، مجدداً فعالیت خود را از سر گرفت. این موزه همچنان به عنوان یکی از مهم‌ترین مراکز هنری ایران و خاورمیانه شناخته می‌شود و نقش مهمی در معرفی هنر معاصر به مخاطبان ایرانی و برگزاری رویدادهای هنری بین‌المللی ایفا می‌کند.
